“The criminal justice system, like any system designed by human beings, clearly has its flaws.” This quote by Ben Whishaw resonates with me in particular as a young black teen as my eyes have been opened to see the hardships of people who share the same ethnic heritage. For this reason, I find the study of law so vital to society as if used correctly it can be key in solving and providing solutions to the injustices of the world.
My initial fascination with law became solidified when I attended a court case at the Royal Court of Justice. This experience allowed me to see just how great an impact lawyers have on a person’s life. As a result, I started to research further into this path and began to realise that law is a career where your passion for a topic or case can make an essential change and set precedents. Having done Law for two consecutive years at both AS and A2 my level of determination and sheer interest has rapidly increased and through class debates my public speaking and confidence skills have enhanced. I have particularly enjoyed learning about murder and special defences in relation to it. This topic interest me most as it has taught me that not all cases have the same outcome even if the scenarios are similar. History has also been a key subject as just like law it is respective in the fact that you have to be able to analyse facts of the past. History has also allowed me to summarise large amounts of data and analyse conflicting evidence in order to come to an upheld judgement. In addition to these subjects psychology has also been vital in providing me the key necessary skills to use within law. Psychology helps one to understand the reasons behind criminal behaviour and why people think a certain way. This is pivotal as Law looks at establishing a motive and
