When seeking to find a ted talk that interested me, David Grubers speech,“Glow-in-the-dark sharks and other stunning sea creatures” caught my eye. David Gruber, a marine biologist, presents his research and discovery addressing the bio fluorescent proteins in marine life. After exploring the world and the depths of the ocean, he creates the theory that a multitude of sea creatures pertain this bio fluorescent protein allowing them to glow. He later concludes that these light-up creatures is “one of the most revolutionary tools in biomedical science” and could “illuminate a new understanding of our own brains and help us learn about the marine life.” By doing so, he obtained the audiences attention, expressed that he had the credibility …show more content…

Gruber shows the improvement in technology, the benefits of this biofluorescent protein, and the multitude of species now found with this trait, simply from the discovery of a green glowing eel. In 1926 Dr. William Longely and Charles martin were using highly explosive magnesium powder to capture the essence of a fish, which now is replaced with a new set of electronical gear. This type of gear is not only safer to the scuba divers but projects a blue light to enhance the bio fluorescent proteins allowing the divers to capture the vibrant colors given off the reptiles, fish and plants below. From this being said, the sea creatures seemed to take in the blue light and reflect their bio fluorescent protein in return. Some of these newly found biofluorescent sea creatures include the Seahorse hippocampus erectus and green fluorescent swell shark. Another new discovery is that this protein contains a pigment called bilirubin, which could illuminate liver disease, states Science News. Watching this ted talk opened my eyes to the possibilities that could lay below the sea. As he began to reminisce about the wonders of the sea, my head began to spin in disbelief. By informing his audience on the newly discovered bio fluorescent protein and its sea creatures, the audience was able to grasp how much evolution has changed the world. Showing that there is still wonders to be discovered and how this new discovery can highly benefit
