The definition of beauty can be interpreted in many different ways. One might find the personality of someone truly beautiful; another will base beauty solely on looks alone without a second thought. Then, there are some who find objects or scenery absolutely beautiful. The Merriam-Webster Dictionary defines beauty in various different ways: “the quality or aggregate of qualities in a person or thing that gives pleasure to the senses or pleasurably exalts the mind or spirit; loveliness”, “a beautiful person or thing”, “a particularly graceful, ornamental, or excellent quality”, and “a brilliant, extreme, or egregious example or instance”. As one can tell, there is no real elucidation of beauty due there being an assortment of definitions to the word. Beauty can create stress for individuals to look a certain way, can mold a person into who he or she is, and can create a sense of tranquility when a person acknowledges what is beautiful to them. Women in today’s society in America are being pushed to be thin, elegant, and wear makeup in order to be beautiful while men must be muscular, “manly”, and attractive. For young girls and boys today, there is no question that it seems as though they are growing up too fast because of how magazines and other various forms of entertainment force them to follow in step not a second too late or they will be deemed as “ugly”. Whether or not a person will succumb to the blatant lies that one must fit into the status quo in order to be accepted depends entirely on them, though it is hard to fight against what is generally called normal.
