The Definition of Love
Every word has a dictionary definition but some words cannot be constrained by these definitions. They have elements and depths that can not be put into a single sentence definition. One such word is love. Google defines love as “an intense feeling of deep affection.” However, love is so much more than a feeling. Love is the fulfillment of self and the answer to life. Love is both a positive and negative emotion. Love is a sacrifice when making sure your family is fed. It is an expression of intense emotion either obvious or hidden. It is a child making a mother's day card and a mother telling them to wear a coat. It is the reason behind pain and heartbreak when girl crying because she just got dumped. It is also a photographer wandering the streets looking for inspiration, feeling everything and nothing all at once. There are times in a person’s life where he or she feels “empty” and as though they have lost his or her purpose. These people live life trying to find themselves. Small children need contact to survive and their families give this to them because they love them. Typically love is never defined unless one searches in a dictionary, but it is common knowledge. Children learn about love when they are being taught about abstract words. At this point in their lives, they already know what it is; they already know why they are told “I love you” and why they say it back. If one of these children is asked about the definition of love they will give an example of love or how love feels to them but it is unlikely to receive an exact definition like they would give if reciting vocabulary words. This thought will continue throughout a person’s life. Adults and children alike search to find the meaning of love and to fill their “voids” with love, but they soon learn why it is so difficult to define
