I have always defined success in life as having nice things, such as the fancy house, expensive car, and luxurious vacations. The reason for this is only because the money is measurable. I can not measure how much my friends and family love me, so to use an unscalable item as a basis for a definition makes it hard to obtain this “success”. I want to own nice fancy things, and will consider myself successful when I do so. In the meantime, however, that does not mean I am “unsuccessful”. For now my journey to success (or my definition of it) only means I am surrounded by the people I care about and love, who push me to reach my goals. I don’t think it was my parents that shaped this definition, but in fact society (but I don’t think this is a bad thing). As long as I have my friends and family by my side I will be happy, but when I start to pay off my fancy house and buy a nice car I will consider myself to have reached success.
