Success is something every human being longs for. The soul searches to feel accreditation or reach a certain dream. It is written down to the very core of our DNA. The definition of success varies from person to person. Merriam Webster defines success as the degree of succeeding, or the attainment of wealth, favor, or eminence. This is one view of the definition that many may also believe, but the true definition of success is not having any worldly wealth to count. The true definition of success is filling your soul with love and joy. That is the essence of life. The origin of success comes from the Latin word successus. Successus is defined as a happy outcome. This shows how over time the idea of success has changed. People now have to be wealthy or hold some type of power to be deemed successful. This transition of meanings proves people have changed the meaning to what they think success is. The original definition is closer to the deep thought that bounds all of us. Although the dictionary would agree, that could not be further from the truth. The opposite is being worldly. Worldly is typically a biblical term that generalizes the ideas of this world. Being worldly is full of let downs and heart breaks. When being worldly you strive to find temporary happiness, yet you never find that eternal fulfillment. Being worldly takes your joy because you no longer have purpose. People live for the sake of the world and not themselves. Ironically that is the most selfish act a person can do.
