What is Success? That depends on the individual. A large portion of ones life is spent working to become successful. People are told throughout childhood to work hard so they can grow up and make lots of money. But success takes many different forms. Different people have different interpretations of what success means to them. For some, success is measured by social status and wealth; for others success is determined only by the amount of happiness one feels. The concept of success is deeply connected with ones values and beliefs. If one person’s value system says that having a lot of money is the most important thing to being successful, then that individual will deem that as a success. I think this was a big problem with me growing up and still is a little difficult to deal with today. I grew up in a family of doctors and dentists, which are both outstanding careers with a great pay rate. In my family it felt like success was what kind of car you drove, the price tag on the clothes you wore, the amount of vacations your family goes on each year and it was something that I struggled with. Two years ago I finally told my family that I didn’t want to do all those things and thinking that they would be mad or they would judge me, but it was the exact opposite. I have finally come to peace with all of this thinking that success means you have a lot of money and what not, but to me success is being absolutely satisfied with everything in my life.
