Humans spend a large portion of their life in repetition of the past however they are all in search of happiness. Many of us fail to understand the meaning of happiness mainly because there is no exact definition, it is an abstract idea that cannot be fully described. This inability is due to the fact that not one person defines happiness in the same way. To some it may be money, fame or power, to others it may be living life to its fullest. We see people seeking pleasure, wealth, and a good reputation. But while each of these has some value, none of them can occupy the place of the good for which humanity should be aiming for.

The poem emphasizes the idea that a humans happiness can only derive from sorrow and how it is our deepest sorrows that allow us to appreciate what we once had and how the disorders which man sees in the universe are actually parts of some larger perfection which a humans limited knowledge cannot perceive. Man’s expectations, not the external universe, are the cause of his misery. Both Aristotle and Khalil believe that the one thing humans seek in life is happiness and it is not until we view the worlds many possibilities that we can achieve true happiness.
This piece of artwork perfectly displays the essence of happiness and aligns with both Aristotle and Khalil. If you look past the obvious display of happiness within the girls faces and analyze the painting you can see that the girls do not have much due to their oversized clothing and thin appearance, yet they seem to have found joy. The painting helps prove the fact that not everyone finds happiness in the same things or has the same ideals. Societal standards play a large role in determining our happiness. We are constantly told that “without this you will never be happy” but that is not true. Real happiness in life does not come from your possessions but from being content with what you do have and wanting nothing more, just like the girls
