DEPARTMENT OF JUSTICE, ATF AND ITS FIREARMS DIVISION The department of justice is the federal department of U.S. government that deals with enforcing law and equal administration of justice. The department also ensures all Americans are protected and have their constitutional rights. It is headed by the Attorney General who is accepted by the Senate after nomination by the President. The Attorney General also belongs to the Cabinet. In this presentation, I would like to talk about the history of the department of Justice, the ATF and its firearms division. The department of justice was established officially on July 1,1970. President Ulysses Grant had signed the bill on June 22,1870 after it had been passed by the Senate and House. The bill had been proposed by Thomas Jenckes, Rhode Island Representative on February 25,1870. The Attorney General’s responsibilities increased due to the ‘’Act to Establish the Department of Justice.’’ Solicitor General office was started to supervise government litigation. …show more content…
Governing federal penitentiaries were relocated to the Department of Justice where new amenities were constructed. An executive order was given to the Department of Justice with the responsibilities to prosecute in a court of the U.S., defending the government and supervision of the work by Attorneys,clerks and marshals. The Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives is an organization in the U.S. Department of Justice, which its responsibilities are investigating the wrongful use of guns and explosives, arson and trafficking alcohol and tobacco. This is by regulating the selling, trading or having firearms and bombs using task forces made up of law enforcing
