“A human being can survive almost anything, as long as she sees the end in sight. But depression is so insidious, and it compounds daily, that it's impossible to ever see the end. The fog is like a cage without a key” (Elizabeth). Sadly many of the youth in college feel this exact way and we need to help them out through this tough time in their lives. Many students have a mental health issues as they reach college and even though there is no one hundred percent cure to stop this we need to lessen the effects it can have an a person. In fact, “1 out of every 4 college students suffers from some form of mental illness,” (Kerr) whether it be depression, anxiety, eating disorder or any of the like our kids are suffering and they need our help. Depression is often a slow and insidious killer that builds up over time as everyday events seem to become the worst times of their life. Depression is one of many mental illnesses that face college students some of the other illnesses include, Anxiety, Panic attacks, Bipolar, and finally ADHD. Depression, which will be the main illness we will look at, isn’t just a state of mind it is as described by Harvard a, “chemical imbalance in the brain,” but they also believe that it is, “faulty mood regulation by the brain, genetic vulnerability, stressful life events, medications, and medical problems,” that cause depression (“What). Although this study has been done multiple times many people see depression as simply just being sad and anxiety as being nervous but this idea is what is very harming.
