THE INTRODUCTION
The harshness of University life/studies can put severe physiological pressure on its students. Students having to juggle between work and school to meet both financial and academic requirements can be too much to bear alone. It is for this reason we wish to propose that a depression support group be set up to provide the necessary assistance for students in need. National Institute of Mental Health(NIMH) says that depression is a common but serious mood disorder. It causes severe symptoms that affect how you feel, think, and handle daily activities, such as sleeping, eating, or working. It is no secret that many students who were not privileged with such assistance have fallen by the wayside, becoming victims of a system that seemingly did not care. According to Healthline.com 1 out of 4 college students suffers from a mental disorder which can be depression,75% of college students do not find professional help, and 3 out of 4 college students attempt suicide or think about it.

This program is design for university students as well as faculty members and staff. In this program, students who went through depressing situations will be running the meetings, however a psychologist will be in charge of the group in order to provide a stable foundation. Having a depression support group will serve to provide physiological support to university students and help ease their burdens of studies. Additionally, this group will benefit SGU academically as it is addressing a problem that affect the studies of students. Although a psychological center is provided, students may feel more comfortable speaking to someone whom been through depression themselves rather than someone who learnt it through books.
