1668 Words7 Pages

Mental illness is something many college students across the nation are dealing with. In a survey researchers found, “81% of the respondents experienced what they identified as ‘depression’ while in college” (Furr, McConnell, Westefeld, and Jenkins 97). There are many triggers to anxiety, addiction, and depression, such as family, expectations, and loneliness. There were many events that led up to Day’s depression arose from when she was a child. She had always felt lonely being homeschooled, and that loneliness followed her to college as she was very young compared to other students. In her twitter feed, Day makes sure that although she has so much going she is able to take time for herself. She is able to disconnect from the internet like she would not be able before by taking a break from social media, for example she tweeted, “ Off the grid for a week byeeeeeeeeeeeeee” (Day). She is able to focus on her; however, there are some instances when her anxiety and loneliness sneaks up on her; recently her two pets passed away, “ [She] said goodbye to [her] kitty George today. Between this and [her] doggie passing, it's been a rough year. And [her] house feels quite empty now” (Twitter). Instead of letting this terrible thing consume her like it would in the past she remained positive, and worried about her self care. She remains positive in times of high stress, especially in a time where she is promoting her highly successful
