Diversity can be defined as people coming together from different backgrounds whether it has to do with race , social class, religion, gender, sexual orientation, age, disability and others to form a club, division, group, organization or community. A diverse establishment is one that values the contrast in people. It pinpoints individuals with different backgrounds and experiences and recognizes that they bring a whole new approach not only to the world, but to education. Diversity is a good thing because it gives people the chance to experience different things outside of what they are acquainted with. Incorporating all walks of life into education, from the smallest corner of the earth to the largest, just makes for an experience like no other. When you learn about a new culture, you embrace it and really start to understand it instead of making preconceived stereotypes and judging before knowing. Students with diverse populations in their school can develop an appreciation of the viewpoint of varied backgrounds and learn to function in multicultural places. Diversity teaches us this, that it’s alright that we are unalike and those things that set us aside from one another, can also be the things that bring us together. All my life I’ve been fortunate enough to live in a multicultural town, and go to diverse schools. Every kid varied from short to tall, black to white, male to female, and the list goes on. I felt this was an advantage to making me succeed in the future. I have made an effort to branch out of my comfort zone and experience life outside my own culture not only in the classroom but in my community as well. This was crucial because instead of having preconceived notions about certain groups I broke down the barrier and actually made my own notions from my own
