Dominican's Learning Goals

In order to visualize my plan to become an elementary teacher, I needed to do research on future courses I am required to take. Through the Dominican Core Curriculum, and advising worksheets, I was able to learn information about all the courses that are required out and in of my intended major. By reading about Dominican’s Learning goals, I was also able to discern how the core curriculum and requirements to graduate with my elementary education major, tie in with the beliefs and values of the school. Although all the learning goals are important, the two that are mainly important to me and my personal goals, are the goals of Knowledge: Depth and Breadth and Communication. As an elementary teacher, my goal is to be the best possible teacher I can be, and to be confident in myself to teach my students. Because of this, the learning goal of Knowledge: Depth and Breadth, is immensely important to me on account that the goal focuses on a student being able to master the knowledge in their major. Secondly, the learning goal of communication is also important to me seeing that I not only need to be able to communicate efficiently with my students, but with parents and other staff members as well. The reason I am not looking forward to taking classes in the natural sciences is because in high school, I took chemistry and biology. Although I was able to pass the class with a grade I was pleased with, I did not enjoy the class due to finding it uninteresting and more challenging than I was accustomed to. The second course I am worried about taking would be History. I also took history classes in high school, and although I did find them interesting, I found it challenging to maintain my desired grade. Ways I can prepare myself for taking these courses would be to not enter the class with a negative attitude from the beginning. If I do, then it will lead me to perceive the classroom as being more difficult than it actually is. Furthermore, if I do have trouble in the classroom, I know I could ask the teacher for assistance or I can go to the office of Literacy and Learning resources to find a
