My intended major here at CWU is to double major in Sociology and Middle level Math teaching. I was born and raised in Wenatchee, Washington and after College I hope to be a math teacher at a low-income school because they are usually schools teachers don’t want to teach at and usually have a higher population in students of color. I want to make an impact and change in students therefore I don’t mind getting paid less and having less resources to work with. From this class I hope to gain an insight to teaching math, and start to develop skills and ways to teach math. I also hope to develop connections with my classmates. Those two teachers were so dedicated to making sure every student understood what they were teaching, understanding numbers and equations was so easy with them. I hope to be a teacher who can turn math class from the dreadful “I don’t know what’s going on” to “I kind of get it and solving for x is not that bad”. I haven’t had a terrible experience with math in school but my worst experience with math would probably be in elementary school, I think around 3rd grade we started to learn the multiplication table, I had the worst time memorizing it. I remember being jealous of the other students who could recite the times table or answer instantly, but thank goodness my hate for math was very, very short lived!
