Parents should be able to monitor what kids do online Even with “That which does not kill us makes us stronger”, People can be emotionally scarred for life because of things that happen to them on the internet.There are many dangers online from unmonitored access to the internet. Such as people saying they are younger than they are to be able to get to teenagers, peer/friend drama, cyberbullying, and the link between social media and depression. Also, even though, “teens have turned to social media to gossip, flirt, and socialize with their peers”, doesn’t mean they can’t do it in a safe environment where they can fully express themselves without worrying something bad will happen. Instead of calming it down people rile up the fighting friends again when they start to calm down so they can watch the drama. And everything just collapses into one big pile of hate. But with a parent, the parent could convince the friends to calm down and talk through the problem in real life.
People get bullied over the internet all the time. Even more people cyber bully than bully in real life, because in the internet, you are anonymous. You cannot get in trouble. For the person getting cyber bullied, it is even worse, because for all they know, it could be a random stranger who just decided to hate them. Add a parent into the mix, and the parent can block them so that the bully can’t talk to the one being bullied.
There is also the link between social media and depression. Research shows that social media and depression are linked, especially with Snapchat. With Snapchat people’s photos get liked and disliked. If there are bad ratings on a photo, they might get depressed. Also on Snapchat, they allow Photoshopped and glamorized photos, which will cause people to think they’re real and are really cool. And they will compare themselves and their real photos with the fake photos and feel bad about themselves. With a parent there, the parent can remind them how loved they are, that around 90% of the photos are Photoshopped, and that their pictures are really good
