Dove “ Real Beauty” Campaign over the year have grown and developed and now has redesign the platform to be intersectional and include women of all different background.Dove in its earlier years had a very narrow definition of beauty,that did not reflect the demographic of women living in America. In recent years Dove tries deviates from the feminine idea of what beauty is and create advertisement appeal to all women. “ Meet Kylee" the second film released by the Dove Real Beauty Campaign and creative Director Shonda Rhimes. The film center around Kylee and her experience growing up. The film central theme is to illustrate that many women cannot relate to traditional standards of feminine beauty. . Meet Kylee takes a really personal approach on addressing the topic of femininity , the video address how kylee growing up felt that she had to follow the traditional characteric of a woman. Unlike the first advertisement of Dove Real Beauty Campaign, Kylie does not fit the mold of what a women could be. From first impression she has more of a more masculine characteristic, she portrays more charactics of being powerful and a go getter . When we look at the idea of femininity and masculinity, Femininity in culture is not what it reveals but what it conceals, the deeper connection that women are connected to. Like love , family, and beauty everything that it different than masculinity. Kylie mother goes on and talks about how she was to scared to deviate from traditional western beauty, so she taught her daughter to be that way. The film goes against all the other ad advertisement that usually shows women as slender body, with a traditional beauty, and are oversexualaized. For years, Black women have been portrayed in a negative light in advertising. Dove “Real Beauty” Campaign embrace diversity and portrays women of ethnic backgrounds Diversity has been a key selling point in the real beauty campaign. All of there advertisement take women from all enrich and racial background. But while Dove has done great job at demonstrating diversity, it has also been in the center of backlash for racist sensitive commercial. Today, I will be analyzing two advertisement dove featured during the last few years that have caused controversy. The first advertisement, Dove published an advert on its Facebook page which showed a black woman turning into a white woman.It was posted to Facebook in 2017 and was a three-second GIF, featured three women, each removing her shirt to reveal the next. Marissa Solan, a spokeswoman for Dove, said that the GIF “was intended to convey that Dove Body Wash is for every woman and be a celebration of diversity, but we got it wrong and, as a result, offended many people.. The second advertisement , was advertisement in magazine , two ladies one white and one black where standing behind two giant posters: one says “before” and features cracked and dry skin, while the other says “after” and shows healthy skin.
