I am driven by both internal and external forces in my quest to earn my doctorate. On a personal level I strive to be a positive role model, especially to the young girls and boys from my home country and my new home. I embrace opportunities to exemplify strong leadership skills, and to demonstrate the willingness to overcome challenges. I proudly acknowledge my skills and my ability to face daunting tasks with my head held high. I also humbly accept how fortunate I have been, and am grateful for the opportunities I have had, and which many others have not. I would consider it among life’s greatest opportunities to pursue my doctorate of nursing at Wayne State University. I have had the good fortune to speak with some alumni of DNP program at Wayne State University, and have come away from those conversations convinced that the doctorate program there will allow me to live up to my own expectations as a nurse, as a leader, and as a person. Each step along this path has been both exciting and occasionally terrifying, and I would not trade a moment of any of it. I have never been one to shy away from challenges, which is why I pursued the positon as a registered nurse in the ICU at my earliest opportunity. My time there only sharpens my desire to cultivate my leadership and nursing skills, and I remain an ICU nurse with an even greater focus on my goals. While the pursuit of my doctorate is my most visible, tangible goal, it is embedded in the broader goal to be of help to those in need, and to be an ally and advocate of patients and families. I consider it a privilege to be of service, and I believe becoming a nurse practitioner will afford me opportunities to do
