East Bay Human Development Program Analysis

California State East Bay provides an excellent Human Development program. The program is broken down into emphasis categories (i.e: Human Development emphasis on Early Childhood) which helps students take classes only for their required degree. The Human Development program is created to help students who are focusing on a specific career choice and help them understand the fundamentals while getting some general experience (hands-on experience in certain courses). Every student has a Blackboard account created once a person becomes a student. On Blackboard, the major department provides information on classes to take, advising and a place to communicate with other students who are apart of your major. It’s extremely helpful for students who are new to a university. One of the resources provided are advising checklists with a list of classes. The lists range from first time students to transfer students and which classes you should take based on your foundation (i.e if you’re a junior or senior). Now, Adult Development and Aging is a junior foundation course. The course speaks for itself, it is all about adulthood and the new developmental stages elder people go through. I do not believe this class best serves as a required class for this major because it doesn’t relate to child development and what the major is focusing on which is children. The course that should be replaced with Adult Development and Aging should be Human Development 3800 which is Human Development and Interaction. This class serves a better purpose for the major because it’s basically about all the interactions you would face in different social perspectives and how you will apply the understanding to the human
