Recently Edith Espinal, an undocumented immigrant, was given sanctuary by the Columbus Mennonite Church. As a mother of three Edith Espinal did not want to leave the country and her family, so instead of attending a final check in with U.S. Immigration and Customs enforcement which most likely would have resulted in her deportation she fled to the church. Organizers are now claiming that Columbus has officially become a sanctuary city and are now calling for U.S.Senator Rob Portman to call for the ICE to grant a stay on Edith Espinal’s deportation order. In a similar case earlier this year a mother from Cincinnati was deported despite numerous efforts by Portman and Sherrod Brown to prevent the mother from being deported. Members of the church

Edith Wilson may have acted as Woodrow Wilson's advisor, but she was still the First Lady who led important steps in preparing for World War I. The First Lady was not exceptionally social, preferring not to host parties or any other social events that were traditionally hosted by the woman of this title (“Miller Center of Public Affairs”). Although she failed in this aspect, Edith began specialized days in an effort to ration the items for the war effort. These included “Meatless Mondays” and “Wheatless Wednesdays” that were days of the week when these foods went uneaten by the citizens of the United States (“Miller Center of Public Affairs”). She even led days when gasoline was to be conserved.
The roaring twenties, the jazz age, the age of intolerance, and the age of wonderful nonsense are all names to describe the year that made the decade roar: the 1920s. This generation produced some of the most captivating aspects of life that we still use or modified, today. Such as the League of Nations. Although we don’t still use this treaty, we do still use NATO, which is very similar. The president at that time was Woodrow Wilson.
Recent findings have acknowledged that women only represent approximately 34% of the entire STEM worker population. This low statistic is due to the presence of gender stereotypes in modern society, which have deprived the opportunities available to women for centuries. Women are often underrepresented in various STEM disciplines, including engineering, mathematics, and computer science. In spite of this historical setback, Edith Clarke, the first female electrical engineer, successfully paved the way for future generations of women in STEM through her many accomplishments. Born in February of 1883 in Ellicott City, Maryland, Edith was one of nine children.
