Educational Philosophy Statement

I am becoming a teacher because I know I can make a difference in the lives of my students. I will be a positive influence in their lives in both the classroom and in the outside world. I will be there to support them educationally, in their extra -curricular activities, and when needed the social world of school. I want my teaching to make an impact on their lives and open up their eyes to all the opportunities that are out there. I believe that every child can succeed when given the tools, knowledge and a teacher who believes in them, I believe that the circumstances one is born into shouldn't dictate their chances for success, and I believe that a strong education system is essential for America to be great.

This can occur through open sharing of ideas in the classroom and a judicious approach to discipline. One important part of my educational philosophy is classroom management. Discipline through teacher to student encouraged self-control, class rules, routines, and school directed procedures; this will set a good foundation for students that will lead to higher student achievement in my classroom. Having positive expectations and treating students fairly and with respect will give students the opportunity to feel empowered to make decisions on their own. These optimistic expectations set in the classroom will asset the stage for each student to obtain high achievement levels throughout the entire school year and though out schools years yet to come. These methods of classroom management and teaching will help to keep my students working in a positive and productive way. Through active involvement as a teacher I can reduce the incidences of misbehavior in my classroom. When the voice of each of my students is heard and respected, and the environment grows where students feels that they can freely to express themselves; where through the use of class and individual meetings are used as an encouragement for such dialogue. The Montessori Educational Philosophy is simple, this method of education follows the child, and proposes that every child is an exclusive individual who is naturally motivated to grow, develop and learn. The educational goals are made up of infusing in children a love of learning, the capability to make appropriate learning choices, and respect for them-self, other people, and their physical environments. Making the children the center of learning, as Montessori said, “The teacher’s task is not to talk, but to prepare and arrange a series of motives for cultural activity in a special environment made for the child.” Montessori teaches us to encouraging children to learn by providing them the freedom to learn in a prepared environment. We are to observe children so that we can prepare the best possible environment, recognizing their sensitive periods and head off inappropriate behavior. Teachers are to prepare the learning environment by ensuring that learning materials are provided in an orderly way and the materials provide are appropriate for the experiences of all the children.
