In preparation for this paper, I visited Element Church, located in Forest City, NC, on October 16. While waiting for the service to begin, I noticed the church’s vision statement : “Element Church exists to reach people far from God, and develop reproducing disciples one life at a time”. This revealed the same longing and purpose as so many of the New Testament prophets and messengers. Some of these being Peter, Paul, and Saul. Although there was not a New Testament book that was used for the message, there we're some New Testament ideals that was present throughout the service. Peter, especially, preaching all throughout the lands, spoke about the love of God is for everyone, no matter if they are a Jew or a Gentile. The speaker made the comment and point of being able to be a part of other’s walk with Christ or others’ faith. In class on Monday, Rawls said a few words about how Paul spoke to the Galatians about this topic. Not only Paul, but speakers all throughout the New Testament continuously influenced and shaped communities’ and/or congregations’ mindset of Christ and the teaching of Christ. For example, when Paul was writing letters to the churches he was able to intervene and change the mindset from one drastic measure to another. Another instance is in the book of Peter, where the term docetism is introduced. This one specific term is so powerful that it changes, or could change, how one views Jesus and the power of Jesus. Just these few instances changed the lives of the audience, theology of the religion, and the relationship that the audience had with Jesus/God. Throughout his sermon these few parallels between the New Testament themes and theologies kept lining up with and to an Old Testament
