In response to the growing demand for Emergency Medical Services (EMS) personnel in many diverse areas around the United States I am proposing a new training workshop for new hires. The training workshop curriculum is designed to educate EMS personnel to become patient-centered medical professionals. The curriculum develops the student’s ability to diagnose and treat disease and illness through listening and communicating with patients, collaborating with other health care professionals, and understanding the most current research and methodologies. The training workshop faculty are scholars and practitioners who foster ethical and collaborative learning. Goal #2: Impact the health care field with an emphasis on patient care in medically underserved areas. Goal #3: Improve pedagogy throughout the program with the use of innovative technology. Goal #4: Educate individuals to integrate the clinical data that they obtain from their patient’s medical history, physical examination, and laboratory analysis in order to form a differential diagnosis, as well as assess and plan for the patient’s condition. Goal #5: Facilitate the maturation of several important interpersonal characteristics during the student’s education, to practice in an ethical, empathetic, and professional manner, with an emphasis on the team-based approach to the provision of medical care. Classes and Coursework Trainees complete foundational coursework over three weeks. The courses are taught using an organ system approach, so that each topic is considered through the lens of a biological system. Clinical Rotations After each trainee has finished the classes and courses section of the training workshop they will then complete in-person clinical rotations at clinical sites in their own
