ALS FIELD CLINICAL
Intended Audience:
Emergency Medicine Program Students, Field Agency Preceptors
Overview and Purpose:
The Emergency Medicine Program at North Carolina State University strives to produce the highest quality pre-hospital care providers. In doing so, our clinical education curriculum is based on student competency and not the number of hospital or field clinical hours completed. To ensure these competencies are achieved, students are required to complete clinical rotations in a diverse set of patient care environments.

ALS Field clinical rotations provide a student the opportunity to encounter patients in the pre-hospital setting with a variety of complaint types, over a vast range of ages. Preceptor evaluation of student for each patient encounter documented in FISDAP.
a. The evaluation is located on the last page of the FISDAP Patient Care Report
• No HIPAA information should be documented
b. Students should rate themselves followed by the preceptor
c. Indicate if an intervention was performed by the student
d. Rate the student’s performance for each patient encounter in each of the seven evaluation areas using the scale provided. For any rating of “Unsuccessful” or “Marginal” please provide an explanation of your rating as well as a recommendation for how the student can improve.
 2- Successful; Competent; No Prompting
 1- Marginal; Inconsistent; Not yet Competent
 0- Unsuccessful; required excessive prompting; not attempted when student was expected to try N/A- Not applicable; Not needed or expected

2. Daily Field Internship Evaluation Form: Preceptor evaluation of student
a. The evaluation is located under “Shift Evaluation” within each FISDAP
