I’ve always been attracted to excellence. Whether it was in my academic pursuits, athletic training, or interpersonal relationships I’ve strived to exceed expectations. The that end, my interest in Dickinson developed because I want to go to the best college available. I firmly believe that Dickinson represents the pinnacle of what I desire out of my college education, since it has defined excellence for over two centuries. Academically speaking, Dickinson provides me an opportunity to succeed. I’m especially excited about the opportunities presented to me through the mathematics department. By providing a balance of theoretical and applicable mathematics, the Dickinson program caters to my need to understand the mathematics of the world, as well as my desire to apply my learning outside of the classroom. By connecting the theoretical and applicable aspects of mathematics, Dickinson has created a learning environment in which I can realize my goal of utilizing the power of mathematics to change the world. My high school curriculum encouraged the appreciation of global values, and I predict that the Center for Global Study and Engagement will aid the progression from high school into a collegiate setting. Understanding issues in a global context is critical to my values as a student. The Center for Global Study and Engagement will make clearer the effects of my learning on different communities. Finally, as a first-year student I am drawn to Dickinson because I believe that it will assist me in my transition to a higher education level. The First Year Seminars provide me with the opportunity to adjust to a new academic setting, while learning about interesting topics. The academic programs at Dickinson, such as Students as Scholars, also captivate me; they will allow me to extend my education outside of the
