Each athlete should maintain their stamina, agility, and strength similar to the student athletes here in Silliman University. Due to excessive physical activities, the athletes’ energy is reduced throughout the game. This results into the loss of minerals and ions in their body in the form of sweat. In order to regain the lost energy, the athletes must consume an energy drink. Energy drinks are used by individuals interested in an active lifestyle and in athletics. According to Biomedicine and Health (n.d.): ”The consumption of energy drinks has increased in recent years. The ions found in energy drinks have properties which excites the cells in the body which results to the activeness of the athlete’s body. Our body needs ions in order to maintain the normal function of the body. These ions are produced by the electric charged particles inside our body which comes from the gain or loss of electrons of the compounds (Nielsen, M., N.D.). As the athletes play during a game, they lose fluids in a form of sweat. As a result, they also lose the ions that are capable of energizing the body. The ions found in the energy drinks are capable of energizing the athletes’ body again. The ions found in the energy drink are in a form of fluid which is also called electrolytes. The ions give an electric charge in form of energy to the cells of the body. It gives electric charge by releasing or gaining an electron. This happens when two atoms contains opposite charge. Through this, the body of an athlete is bombarded with electric charges coming from the ions therefore energizing the body of the
