Before taking English 111, I didn’t realize how many concepts and techniques there were to the writing process. I have learned my strengths and weaknesses in writing as well as learning and comprehending different types of writing. I have developed citation skills, formatting skills, and creativity during this semester. The most difficult learning experience I had, and still could improve on, are citation skills. I went from using a citation generating site to actually typing them up myself. This was very difficult as there are multiple different ways to cite sources depending on the type of source. It was also very challenging trying to determine what information I had in hand, what information I had to find and where I could find it. Not finding all the information was difficult as I didn’t know exactly what and where to put the information unless I had an example to go by. The most difficult citation was when an author was nowhere to be found. I plan on practicing my citation skills to improve them more than I have already. I also learned more about the way a MLA paper is supposed to be formatted. I felt this strongly with writing the personal narrative essay, but also mildly with all the other essays as well. It pushed me into details that I wouldn’t have thought were important before. I was pushed to create an interesting introduction at the beginning of each essay, as well as creative titles. English 111 has even pushed me to the challenging task of deciding what to do research on when writing my I-search essay and that really inspired me and showed me how creative I could get.
