When being placed into English 102 this semester, like most students I felt mixed emotions. I was anxious, excited, and curious about what was to come the next couple of weeks. Of course English has always been my favorite subject, and it is something I valued, but I did not think that I would do as well as I did this semester. Since I am a nursing major I took this class very seriously. Most people would not understand how an English course like this one can be significant when it comes to the world of patient care. However, I was a student intern my senior year at a hospital and was surprised to find out how important it is to pay attention in your English class. Nursing is not only about physically taking care of patients, it requires many different skills that have to do with writing. For instance, nurses have to give reports on each patient to describe their current state of condition and the specific procedures that need to take place for each individual. …show more content…

I have always had a problem with the way I structured my sentences, and the way I used grammar. Growing up, I never really thought that I had a strong background in these aspects. This has caused many issues in my upper level writing. Many times I have to take extra time out of my day to correct simple grammar and sentence structure issues. This can become very time consuming. One time I failed at these aspects in English 102 was in my report paper, “Southern Stereotypes”. In my introduction and other many parts of my essay, I didn’t use my commas correctly. One example of this is in the following sentence. “Maybe it’s the wide range of farms, and land you pass by when you go through the South.” Not only does this sentence sound odd, the grammar is incorrect.
