Explain why strategic direction from national and local policy is required to address factors impacting on outcomes and life chances for children and young people Strategic direction from national and local policy is required to ensure it reaches every child and young person, by initially completing policy on a national level will allow every factor that has a negative impact on a child`s outcome or detrimental to their life chances to be included as it has been completed across the nation (taking into account various reports and completed research projects) and not pockets of areas which may not give the whole picture or areas that need to be addressed- ensuring a more accurate outcome and more detailed information to learn from. The child born to poverty will be less likely to have a bicycle, skateboard, football club membership, swimming lessons etc. This lack of opportunity, coupled with a less nutritionally dense diet will have a detrimental effect on bone and muscle growth and thus restrict development in these areas. *Social and emotional Development the reduced invites, abilities and self-esteem experienced by a child from a family with no financial security will create reduced opportunities for development in these areas. Every time a child is not invited to a party, sports event or social event it will further knock their confidence and self-esteem. The emotional security of a child will be damaged by the lack of self-esteem and this often results in challenging behaviours. If the background of poverty is also coupled with reduced parenting, maybe due to mental health issues, addiction or abuse, then challenging behaviours will almost certainly be displayed by the child. This often results in further isolation from the child’s desired peer group and the negative cycle
