Why do labs that create new remedies and products test on humans and animals and what are some of the effect that can be caused by this testing?
When medical labs do research on illnesses and what causes them, the ultimate goal is to find a way to cure it. Scientist can isolate the chemicals in plants and animals that have the ability to cure certain ailments through research and testing. They can them make these chemicals artificially. Medicines that actually work don’t come magically. It's a process that has to benefit a really large group of people. In order for scientists to know if these remedies or medicines are safe and effective, they have to test it somewhere. Sometimes animals don’t react the same way as humans to a produce. As a

Making the raw materials into medicine was a new challenge that was to be faced. In early medicine, the herbs were ground up to make a paste and honey would be added to it to make it taste better. In the 1800s when the emergence of synthetic chemistry came about, new paths were created for scientific research of drugs because more people were trained for work in a laboratory. Around this time is when chemists tried to separate the medically active ingredients in plants and make them in a lab in order for them to avoid depending on plant supplies. Since pharmaceutical production became a large business, companies would maintain their own facilities for research. In order to protect the patients from harmful results and side effects, the state established a system of tests including animal testing and clinical trials before a drug could be approved. Animal experimentation is responsible for many medical and pharmaceutical advances that have benefited the human population. In the United States, pharmaceuticals must be tested on animals before it can be tested on humans. About 95% of the overall animals used for experimentation consist of mice and rats while the remain portion of the animals are dogs, cats, rabbits and nonhuman primates. THe animal
