Essay On Career Shadowing

Where last year’s career shadow day failed, this year’s answered questions rather than opening up more. This is due to how comprehensive the person I met with made the experience. I shadowed Chris Sciulli, who is a Graduate Architect at the company AE7, on Thursday, April 26th, 2018. This was a normal day for the firm, where every worker was adding onto different aspects of shared projects and collaborating in small groups. Mr. Sciulli had me meet almost everyone at the office, whose occupations ranged from advertising to interior design. Through this, I was able to understand the ins and outs of the profession and realize that I wanted to enter it. First, is a 5 year Bachelor program. Chris completed his at Penn State, and was even allowed to study abroad in Rome. Even though he had a well rounded education, he believed it had already equipped him the the necessary skills. For this, he was content on staying out of school and focusing on receiving his license. The other option was to receive a master’s. This was a route taken by Mark, an interior designer at the office who realized his potential as an Architect. However, the program at the college must be accredited by the NAAB in order for the option of licenseship to be possible. Through these programs, the necessary skills will be embedded in any student who is able to work through all the entirety of one. These include an attention to detail, as the designed buildings must be both aesthetically pleasing and structurally sound, the ability to work with others, as it is almost impossible for one single person to complete a project from start to finish, and a passion for the profession. Many of the employees believed their passion was the most important aspect, since the profession did in fact entail long hours even when the pay off had the possibility of being lower than expected.
