There has been a controversy as to whether or not same-sex couples should be allowed to adopt children. For years, thousands of children are need of a home and parents, however due to the amount of unqualified parents, these thousands of children remain trapped in foster homes; therefore, welfare agencies decided to give a wider range of adults the right to adopt. For instance, adults whom are single, have disabilities, and low income are given the privilege to adopt a child. As a matter of fact, same sex-couples are attempting to join this group, yet it has been a struggle due to the amount of oppositions. It is believed by social norms to follow tradition which is parents should consist of a mother and a father. Notably, homosexual parenting and the American Academy of Pediatrics (AAP) invigorating the concept of two-parent families could be something positive, rather than something considered as stepping away from “traditional family values” (Source A). With this in mind, many children in foster homes can finally be given a home and a family that they have been longing for all these years. In addition, no matter how one may see it, traditional family values does not revolve around the structure of the family alone. It could also be associated with the family’s ideals and beliefs. Furthermore, there are more to same-sex parenting that could be seen as positive. For this reason, being raised by gay parents could be an “advantage” (Source A). Being raised by homosexual parents can cause the child to be more open and influenced with the diversity.
