Hunger in the land of the greedy
As the population in America grows, so does the amount of people that live without the necessary amount of nutrition and food needed to survive. Lack of sufficient amounts of food seems to be unbeknownst to majority of the unaffected. "1 in people in America face hunger", As a country we have given an abundance of food aid to other countries seemingly forgetting that our own is in need too. Though helping is never a bad thing, it is time Americans take care of our people and stop ignoring the growing epidemic that is hunger. One way this can be combated is to raise the minimum wage to a livable wage.
In America "the national minimum wage is only $5.15 an hour; that's $10,300 a year for a full-time job." It is unjustified that a country as wealthy as ours would be doing so little to keep its people healthy. In some ways, yes raising minimum wage would raise everything but the more money given, means more money that people can work with. Sometimes a meal comes down to the lack of a few dollars. This heightens closer to the south, the lack of food is much more immense. In rural areas like the Mississippi Delta, and the US-Mexico border, "there are few choices aside from owning a car. Healthcare, furniture, clothing – these are all costs everyone incurs, although there might be a modest difference based on access." This means that the citizens living there have no other choice than to get what they need and nothing extra. They simply cannot afford simple and cheap desires. They do not have anything to spare, they rarely even have enough for things they need to survive.
