Booker T. Washington once asked, "Can you identify the problem?" In regards to Mississippi is number 50 in the nation for education. Mississippi earned a “D” on the Annual Quality Counts report card compiled by the Education Week publication. There are several reason why Mississippi is 50th in the country. Being 50th in the country is a result of corruption in Mississippi school systems.
Those who oppose the misuse of money being the issue, believes the lack of financial support is the biggest problem currently facing school systems in Mississippi. School systems would rather spend thousands even millions of dollars on technology. Why not spend some of the money on textbooks? It is easy for a child's mind to drift away on technology. During learning time a child can have access to games and partake in other things that do not pertain to his lesson. Majority of the time the money that is given to the school is often misused by school officials. School officials use money that belong to the school as a personal gain. School officials should do what is best for the children. Not what is best for themselves, the school or the school board.
Foundation is the start to a great early learning experience. However, Mississippi remains the only state in the south that does not fund any Pre-K programs. Researchers have found that high quality Pre-K programs can improve long-term outcomes for low-income children and help close and achievement gaps.
