The biggest obstacles that I have encountered in my ability to read and write are my learning disabilities. I went so many years of my life before figuring out what’s wrong, and that’s been frustrating. I had no idea how other kids could read aloud so well and why I couldn’t. I didn’t know why it took me so long to read a few pages of a book when others where done reading what needed to be read. I have no idea why it took me so long to write a paragraph when others where done with there essays.

I remember my sophomore year, in English; we were assigned to read “To Kill A Mocking Bird” for the first half of class and write a summary on what we read. As for me, I didn’t like that because we all read at different paces and I knew that I would be as far as other kids. I wasn’t focused on what I need to do because I was scared that I would be five too six pages behind others. I would look around the room and that would keep me of track on what I needed to be doing. I’m thinking to myself I’m getting better each day. I would still walk out to tell my friends that I was doing make up work, but as I walked back in I reminded myself of what Mrs. Cruz told me. I kept thinking “next time they walk by I’m going to tell them the truth on why I’m really here.” As they walked by again I told them and they started to laugh. I remember Jr saying, “Dude that’s good that your thinking about your education and trying to get better at something that you aren’t to strong in.” That gave me an extra boost to get back in that room and finish what I started. After a month of putting in extra time to get my reading and writing skills up, I notice the big difference. I was able to read with out being nervous. I was able to read and understand what I just read. Then came the summaries, I was able to summarize what I read. I was shocked and
