A great International Non Government Organization (INGO) is Oxfam International. Oxfam America is branch of Oxfam international confederation that consists of 18 organizations in more than 90 countries. “Oxfam America is a global organization working to right the wrongs of poverty, hunger, and injustice” (Inside Oxfam America). Oxfam America’s vision is a just world without poverty. Their mission is to create lasting solution to poverty, hunger, and social injustice. Although this might goal seems to appear daunting, Oxfam’s solution to fix injustice of poverty consists of four categories: saving lives, programs to overcome poverty and injustice, campaigning for social justice, and public education. Oxfam recently reported about the chicken industry and with its report declaring the high human cost of chicken. The report provides detailed background on the booming chicken industry and how they are treating workers inhumanely. They are deprived of necessary needs like going to the bathroom in a normal sense, seeking medical help in an accident, and compensations for donning equipment needed for the job. It is time those companies own up to the mistreatments, wrong doings, and unfair practices that they do and be accountable. As Oxfam and others have found out when dealing with big company, challenges are encountered. The companies have enormous money in their war chest to battle with anybody. Since the government has an enormous contract with the poultry industry, when they often prosecute claims and judgment on the industry, the resulting fine a laughable low compared to the net worth of the company.
