In the United States, one of the most discouraging issues is the unequal distribution of resources to all citizens. The United States is considered to be the richest and most prosperous country in the world, yet 40.6 million Americans live on incomes considered to be below the poverty threshold. Necessities such as food, water, clothing, and shelter are difficult to obtain without money. Because of this, many of the citizens living in poverty have to make daily sacrifices such as skipping meals, rummaging garbage bins in hopes to find any sort of garments, and standing in the streets asking for monetary donations. As I have been told many times by many leading figures in my life, a society can only be as strong as its weakest member. So, in my future career, I wish to examine the poverty dilemma, investigate various options on how to properly distribute goods to all citizens, and appeal to the public on how unfavorable life in poverty can be. …show more content…
In the United States, necessities and precious resources are consumed impulsively, with little to no concern for the waste produced. Nearly everyone in the country is responsible for immeasurable amounts of unnecessary waste filling the country’s landfills at an alarming rate. With the education I plan to receive at Iowa State University, I aspire to demonstrate to the public how much unwarranted refuse is produced and develop ways to reuse materials so that individuals can become more efficient and cautious consumers.
