There are many skills, qualities, and attributes that seperate an average leader from a good leader. One of the most important things a leader must do, that is often over looked is the ability to get people to want to follow them. This may sound trivial, however, it is an important idea to understand. All good leaders understand the concept that people obey authority because they must, but they will follow leaders because they want to. A leader must have the ability to remain poised under pressure, they must set a high standard and live up to that standard, they must lead by example, and they must build trust and cohesive units in order to be successful and considered a good leader.

A good leader does this by having certain qualities or skills such as being able to remain confident and poised under pressure, creating cohesive units by establishing trust, taking care of others, and setting a high standard and living up to that standard. Among those skills, a good leader must be technically and tactically proficient in order to be effective in their leadership role. Most of these qualities are infectious, they will more often than not be emulated by the ones that the leaders are chosen to lead. Leaders must have the moral courage to do what is right, even when it is difficult or not in your immediate best interests. The need for moral courage is not confined to the battlefield. If people see their leader cutting corners or evading responsibility, they will believe that behavior is acceptable. A good leader must understand that they set the tone and that every action or decision will be watched closely and has the potential to become a model for future behavior of their followers. There are many different qualities that make a leader a good or effective one, perhaps one of the most important skill for a leader to have is the ability to get people to be proud to follow
