As a pastor and ministry leader of a recovery ministry, my goal is to always attempt to lead others from the contextual standpoint that God is loving, faithful, and sovereign in the affairs of the leader, and that my leadership is an act of worship and submission to God (CCBS, 2018). Unfortunately, leading others from the context of worship and submission to God does not always happen. Due to the nature of my ministry, the context in which this author tends to lead at times, is man-centered and situational. Regrettably, and when leading others from the man-centered approach, this author finds himself tempted to misuse power in order to motivate others. Power, being an essential component of leadership, is how the leader influences others to get things done, but when power is misused, power is often viewed by the leader’s followers as a form of manipulation (Yukl, 2010). When leading situationally, this author attempts to predict the behavior of others by what those others did previously, and while predicting behavior is effective in developing the human skills of the leader, predicting the behavior of others can also be paradoxical and thus lead …show more content…

As a consequence, this author was found to lack conviction in his ministry, and in his personal life, and because this author has lacked conviction, others have failed to appreciate God’s Kingdom vision in his ministry. In order to change, this author must repent and acknowledge God is sovereign in the affairs of both his leadership and ministry. Furthermore, this author also believes he must learn to lead through a heart-centered and Christ-centered approach to leadership in order to be effective as a leader. Finally, this author believes the he must also develop convictional intelligence and integrity in order to think, act, and reason biblically so that God receives the glory, instead of
