Have you ever heard people around you talking about their opinions on whether marijuana should be legal for medicinal purposes? Marijuana is one of the most common illegal drugs in the United States, but unlike other illegal drugs, it has multiple benefits which many people don’t know about. Marijuana is used to treat patients with sicknesses ranging from headaches to seizures, and it has less side effects than the common prescription drugs that would normally be given to these patients. Marijuana has been proven to treat a variety of medical conditions. People with headaches, sleeping disorders, and even patients with epilepsy have benefitted from using marijuana. Many people have one or more ailments, and sometimes, medications made specifically made for whatever the illness they are suffering from (if there even is one) don’t work. If marijuana helps them sleep at night, what harm would come from prescribing it to them? People with epilepsy who get regular seizures would also benefit from medical marijuana. Marijuana, if any, has a short list of harmful side effects. Medications, over the counter or not, can harm a persons' kidneys in the long run. There are organ donors in many states who only have 1 kidney and can't take many medications due to their kidney not having enough strength to withstand the medications. These people could greatly benefit from medical marijuana in the long run. Patients undergoing chemotherapy often times feel nauseated and weak, and smoking marijuana has shown to be helpful to these patients. Instead of taking prescription drugs, which could be expensive as well, it would be easier and probably more effective to smoke
