Imagine a world where chemotherapy doesn’t have as much pain and as many consequences on your health, or where there is no such thing as an overdose on painkillers. That world could be in the realm of possibility with the legalization of medical marijuana. If you believe in the legalization of medical marijuana, you aren’t the only one. In a poll conducted by webmd.com, about half of the 1500 doctors questioned said that they think that medical marijuana should be legalized, and almost 70% say that it has benefits with certain treatments and conditions. Not only that, but 82% of doctors who are either trained to treat blood diseases or treat tumors say that they believe medical marijuana should be legal in their state. The reason why they believe this is that they believe that the benefits outway the risks. This is important because if those who are educated thoroughly on all types of treatment and specialize on the areas that medical marijuana benefits believe that it should be legal, why shouldn’t it be? Why is medical marijuana being pushed to be legal? The reason that many people want it to be legal is because of the diversity of issues that it treats. The lethal level for marijuana is estimated at about 1500 pounds smoked in under 15 minutes if the death were to come directly from the marijuana (AsapScience). This is why deaths from marijuana is basically unheard of. Along with this, Marijuana has been known to have fewer negative side effects than prescription drugs, such as opioids. To recapitulate, Legalizing medical marijuana could save thousands of lives, and thousands of dollars.
