When you hear the word marijuana what do you think? A lot of people assume different things, either it is bad or people say its good. Marijuana is legal in 4 of our states which includes, Washington, Colorado, Oregon, and Alaska and then there are other states that marijuana is legal for medical use only. The problem with marijuana is it ruins to many peoples lives and not by using it. It ruins peoples lives when you get charged with possession or anything dealing with marijuana. Legalizing marijuana would take away the “693,000 arrests a year dealing with marijuana which is far more than the total number combined for rape, murder, robbery, and assault” (NORML.org) and also help out all of the patients that could benefit from using it. …show more content…

Legalizing it all over would result in less drug related violence because it would erase marijuana drug dealers. “Also legalizing and regulating marijuana will bring the nation's largest cash crop, creating jobs and economic opportunities in the formal economy” (Marijuana Legalization and Regulation). State and local governments would have significant new sources of tax revenue from regulating marijuana sales which would bring in a lot of money because nearly 100 million Americans have used marijuana and according to government surveys, around 25 million Americans have smoked marijuana in the past year. More than 14 million do so regularly despite the laws that make it illegal. Marijuana prohibition causes more problems than it solves, and ruins thousands more lives than it supposedly tries to save. The reason behind this is because their have been no recorded deaths by this drug but the laws are so strict on this subject that it ruins peoples lives when they get caught. A marijuana charge could take away opportunities like college, sports, or jobs. If this drug would be legalized all over the U.S., then that problem wouldn’t even occur.
