The position statement is well structured in accordance with the essay format including introduction, body and conclusion. Moreover, the introduction is suggested to orientate the audience by stating the purpose of the essay (Stockhausen & Conrick, 2002). Accordingly, the part “this essay will explain why it is important to accomplish the requirement of CPD…” could convey the aim of the author. Also, the position statement also demonstrated the supporting side by giving several positive statements regarding the continuation of CPD. However it is recommended that a good position statement should clearly demonstrate all viewpoints (Cottrell, 2012). Hence, the position statement could be more effective and objective if the author had included how CPD cannot only be beneficial for nurse’s practice and patient outcome but also disadvantages of continuing CPD before providing personal opinion. This failure is repeated in the conclusion part when the author eliminated the drawback of CPD and mostly discussed the importance of continuity of CPD in providing patient’s care. Therefore it would be better if all discussed arguments were again summarised so that the readers could be easier to sum up what has been discussed (Stockhausen & Conrick, 2002). However, the position statement is well related to the given topic by mentioning the pros and cons of CPD. Moreover, each argument is strongly linked to the given position statement. It is noticed that the author also show provided evidence for the rebuttal of the topic and also referred back to how the arguments support the position statement.
