In today’s society there are a number of children who do not receive an adequate early childhood education. This is that many of these children live in poverty and attend a Head Start school that is considered low performing. In order to address this issue the Every Student Succeeds Act (ESSA) was established, and was signed by President Barack Obama on December 10, 2015. It is a reformed version of No Child Left Behind (NCLB), which was passed in 2002. The ultimate goal of ESSA is to, “Ensure that all students in America be taught to high academic standards that will prepare them to succeed according to Every Student Succeeds Act, (ESSA), (2015).” Although the act is a nationwide policy serves all children, it specifically targets low income communities with low performing schools. This is that individuals feel funds for Head Start need to be raised because $250 million for preschool grants does not supply all the necessary needs in order to provide adequate early childhood education. The caring needs of Head Start students are greater than the needs of a child attending grade school. These needs can include but not limited purchasing baby formula for infants, diapers/pullups, and baby cribs etc. The policy focuses more on grade school (K-12) rather than preschool education. In order to fix this issue I recommend states supply all Head Start agencies with free monthly supplies so that money spent on these items can be reduced. Also, I recommend Head Start schools partner with educational and baby supply companies under contract (ex: Gerber, Huggies, Elmer’s etc.). A contract stating that if the companies supply Head Start schools with free supplies, the schools will help advertise for the
