Death by Discrimination Throughout life, many people have experienced some type of discrimination. In fact, the history of the United States contains many different discriminatory movements, including the Civil Rights Movement which was a fight to end discrimination towards African Americans, and more recently, the LGBT Movement, aiming to gain full acceptance of lesbian, gay, bisexual, and transgender people into society. Director Jon Jones brings a very famous movement known around the world as the Holocaust to life in the movie The Diary of Anne Frank, a powerful story of discrimination and hate towards the Jews during World War II. Jones’s rendition of The Diary of Anne Frank is fairly accurate based on the elements of characters, actors, and plot. When referring to the accuracy of a movie based on true events, characters play an important role. The character of Anne Frank, a young girl who is forced into hiding with her family during the Holocaust to avoid death, is somewhat accurately portrayed in The Diary of Anne Frank. Otto’s character accurately captures the difference of the love Otto actually felt for his daughters versus the love he felt for his wife. Otto cares more for his daughters in both the movie and the book (The Diary of). He is also wise and understanding, and steps up to be a leader during the family’s time in the secret annex. He knows and is in charge of everything going on in the annex and his office just below the annex. The viewer may wonder how the van Pels, friends of the Frank family that joined them in hiding, and the Franks hid for two years. If can be inferred that Otto is represented so accurately because it is important to show that he is the one who kept everyone sane. Otto, indirectly, kept the families in hiding for the two
