.M1: Explain how interpersonal interaction skills are used to support the business context: Interpersonal Skills: Interpersonal Skills are the skills that we use in our everyday life which is also known as people skills. It is because this skill is related to the way you communicate and interact with the people around you on a day to day basis. For example when employers are hiring people, this skills is one of the skills they will look at to evaluate the candidates. People with this skills is said to be more successful in not only their professional life but also in their personal lives.
The next biblical and strategic principle is for AMS leaders to communicate a business dream. Through communications, leaders are now formulating a dream for its reality. “Communications is a network of channels created to send messages” (Moore, 2004, pg.17-18). When AMC leaders communicate to one team member they should also communicate to all the rest of their team openly. In all manners of business leadership tasks, AMC leaders should make their communication of needs, expectations and opinions to other followers as a top priority.
The concern is if the leadership method is effective for that particular setting. The type of leadership style my preceptor has is task-oriented. Spahr defines task-oriented leadership as, “leadership that focuses on completing a job and concentrates on tasks that have to be done, rather than who is doing them” (Spahr, 2015).
Tom Landry once said, “Leadership is a matter of having people look at you and gain confidence, seeing how you react. If you're in control, they're in control.” This quote is saying that the people following a leader need to have confidence in their leader. As said in the quote, if the the leader has confidence, then the people have confidence. Clearly, a collaborative leader is better than a authoritative leader because people thrive when the leader relates to the people.
Adapt your leadership style, and how you get the best out of them is a team concept based in being able to provide each team member with the type of leadership that will make them the most effective and achieve their personal and team goals at the same time. This is something all leaders should employ because everyone is different, and there are different things that motivate them as individuals. Supportive leadership consists of being friendly and approachable as a leader and includes attending to the well-being and human needs of subordinates (Northouse cited in Sikandar Hayyat Malk ,2012). Supportive leadership is effective as leader offers a wide range of rewards to subordinate such as encouragement, pats on the back, and respect. ( Sikandar Hayyat Malik 2013) Supportive leadership is a leader will rather used the take and effort to help the employees understand their strengths and weakness so that they could improve on doing their task. Among other things, it predicts that directive leadership is effective with ambiguous tasks, that supportive leadership is effective with repetitive tasks, that participative leadership is effective when tasks are unclear and subordinates are autonomous, and that achievement-oriented leadership is effective for challenging tasks. By taking the Path-Goal Leadership Questionnaire, I know that which way suit me to lead my followers. In my case, I score 27 in participative, which is the highest of four options. As a participative leader, I do reference the suggestions from the followers for making decisions sometimes but not always. Sometimes the leaders’ behaviors depend on the characteristic of the subordinates and tasks.
When the team understands the daily task as well as the leader understands the same task they will learn to accept leader’s leadership style. Sharing the SMART objectives with the team members will create trust in the leader’s leadership style. Certain types of work may require different types of leadership style. If the leadership style used helps to achieve strategic goals, group members will be more likely to follow this leadership style as positive.
Introduction Team leadership encompasses many things. It may seem like a simple and small task, but in a real sense, it is complex and comes with responsibilities, and commonly, it determines the success of any team or a group. However, the value of teamwork should not be overemphasized considering that all organizations need individuals and personnel who are willing to share ideas, listen to others and contribute to the problem solving of any given group or a company. According to this theory the best leaders are those who best adapt themselves to the situation. An adaptive leader might look at cues such as the type of task and who is involved in group, to better their judgement. A study on university employees on situational leadership found results that indicated a situational factor in leadership when solving different job tasks (Fernandez & Vecchio, 1997). This theory has an application for the EPP that I took part in, throughout my experience I was faced with tasks that we as a team had to overcome, it became clear that the role of leader changed dependant on the task. An example would be creating the design and speech for the new PowerPoint presentation for recruitment of student staff.
