Reacting to the Past: Creed Paper
The council has proposed the following creed.
We believe in one God, The Creator, the Almighty, Giver of Life to all Things
Visible and Invisible, Sovereign Judge, Unalterable and unchangeable. God of the Holy Scriptures.
We believe in one Lord, Jesus Christ, The Word of God, God from God, Light from Light, Life from Life, Son in likeness to his Creator. Through him all things came into being.
And we believe in the Holy Ghost, the spirit of life, who proceeds from God and Jesus and with them is worshiped and glorified, who spoke through the chosen ones.
And we believe in one holy catholic and apostolic church. We acknowledge one baptism for the remission of sins; And we look for the resurrection of the dead, In the life of the world to come. Amen. …show more content…

Unfortunately, the second declaration of the creed describes Jesus as “Son in likeness to his creator”. The term “likeness” is used to make a distinction between Jesus and God. In similar fashion, Genesis 1:27 says “So God created mankind in his own image”. Mankind, unlike Jesus, is riddled with faults and encumbered by sins and temptations. Use of the word “likeness” implies that Jesus Christ was no different from you or I. But we all know otherwise. Not is Jesus recognized as God incarnate in multiple books of the holy scripture, but his conception was of an immaculate origin, and his relationship to God the father is beyond that of any
