Throughout this semester in Human Growth and Development we have learned a lot of things. This class taught us about lifespan development of all of the ages. For this general education assignment, we were asked to answer 4 of 5 questions. The questions that I am choosing are: explain three of the seven prenatal teratogens, Explain the development of aggression, explain the structure, stability, and genetic and environmental influences on temperament, and explain the five milestones of prenatal development. The first prenatal teratogen that I will talk about is illegal drugs. Babies who are born from mothers who are abusing illegal drugs have a number of problems. Temperament is early appearing, stable individual differences in reactivity and self-regulation. Reactivity refers to quickness and intensity of emotional arousal, attention, and motor activity. Self-regulation as we have seen refers to strategies that modify that reactivity. The structure of temperament is the easy child, which quickly establishes regular routines in infancy, and generally happy and adjusts to new experiences. The difficult child is irregular in daily routines, slow to accept new experiences, and tends to react negatively, and intensely. The slow-to-warm-up child is inactive, mild lowkey reactions to environmental stimuli, negative mood, adjusts slowly to new experiences. The overall stability in infants and toddlerhood is low. It is moderate from preschool on. Temperament develops with age. Temperament is also based on the biological basis of every person. Genetic influences are clear with temperament, but the environment is also powerful. Nutritional and and emotional deprivation greatly impacts temperament (Berk, 2014, p. 148-149,
