Out of the four characteristics of National Honor Society, I felt the most important is, a character. I chose it because what Martin Luther King Jr. he “motivates his supporters not to judge individuals by their appearance, but rather by the substance of their character”. An individual character, ups and downs, can influence others to the nature of being incredible or losing confidence from attempting. Character distinguishes how your behavior shows the way you carry yourself every day and helps build fantastic relationships.
The National Honor Society is an organization with many functions, not only within school, but also within the community. I see the National Honor Society and its members as outstanding students with exceptional accomplishments and recognitions, who have stood out from others in academic achievement, community service, and leadership. It functions to provide a distinction from other high school students for the work of those in the organization. All of its members come together to enhance the quality of our community and school as a whole. If I am selected to join this organization, I will contribute my intellect and problem-solving abilities to help the organization progress in whatever it is that it pursues.
The National Honor Society is based off of four pillars: Scholarship, Leadership, Service, and Character. School is a really important part of everyone’s life, and I feel blessed that I have had the opportunities that I have had while growing up in McComb Ohio. While attending McComb I have also been blessed with the ability to always succeed in what I do, and I currently have a 4.0 GPA. I have also been blessed with the opportunity to participate in many different activities such as junior high volleyball, school musicals, jazz band, pep band, marching band, concert band, and choir. National Honors Society has implemented the four pillars to ensure the development of students in all areas of life. Scholarship is an extremely significant endeavor for each student as education must be a priority. To succeed in academics, one must be motivated to pursue scholarship by working hard. Academic excellence does not come naturally for most, but requires dedication to be worthy of high scholastic merit. Leadership is also a vital characteristic of a successful student.
The National Honor Society (NHS) stands by such values as Scholarship, Leadership, Service, and character; it is these values that I strive to live by. I have received the opportunity to become a proud member of the NHS, and have been humbled by this chance. Throughout my high school career I try to be involved in anything I can help the school, from being a part of community service activities. Also, I have achieved my goal to work as hard as I possibly can to stand out among my peers. Even outside of school I have worked to uphold the values of club, and shall continue to do so if I chosen.
The National Honor Society consists of a reputable group of students that are involved in many other activities and hold themselves to the utmost standards. It is an honor to be apart of a wonderful collection of students that give their all. As all members of the NHS will attest, this organization makes their four pillars well-known and expects all students to work towards bettering themselves in those areas. Scholarship, service, leadership, and character are the pillars that the NHS built themselves upon.
The four pillars of National Honor Society has shaped me into a better, more caring person. I believe that joining National Honor Society will keep making me a better person in the future. The first pillar is, Scholarship which is a commitment to learning. I have always been very diligent about getting good grades, but since joining National Honor Society, I have become more focused and more organized about my school work, and many other things. It has also made me more focused about college.
As I reflect on the four pillars of the National Honor Society—Scholarship, Service, Leadership, and Character—I find myself drawn most strongly to the pillar of Leadership. Throughout my academic journey, I have consistently demonstrated a commitment to leading by example and inspiring those around me to reach their full potential. Leadership, to me, is not just about holding a title or position of authority; it is about taking initiative, fostering collaboration, and making a positive impact on others. In both my academic and extracurricular pursuits, I have sought out opportunities to lead and empower my peers. One example of my leadership can be seen in my role as the captain of the debate team.
Each of the National Honor Society’s four pillars, character, scholarship, leadership, and service, are a part of what the students of NHS embody in who they are and how they act. Character is the sum of who a person is and how they act, be it good or bad. Attaining good character is very important because one’s character will seep out into all aspect of one’s life and permeate into the decisions they make. Scholarship represents the importance of education and learning. Through good grades, high test scores, and academic excellence one develops a love for lifelong learning.
National Honors Society’s four pillars are essential foundations of not only becoming a member of this elite organization but also life itself. Character, scholarship, leadership, and service are qualities I feel passionate about. Throughout my life, I have developed character in my community, family, and school. Taking leadership roles in those three areas continues to shape the person I am becoming. I regularly participate in community service that I find equally enjoyable and fulfilling.

Service regards in the mindfulness of aiding those who are in need of help. Leadership recognizes those partaking in assisting the community to grow. Character describes the define characteristics that one portrays to be.
I accept this opportunity the National Honor society has granted me with the utmost gratitude. Members of the National Honors society are encouraged to uphold four main traits which are but not limited to scholarship, service, leadership and character. Holding up to these characteristics is crucial to being apart of this organization because they help you succeed in adult life. I believe I have the foundation of theses characteristics, I have pride in my grades and strive to achieve above and beyond what my teachers ask. I find it important to provide my services to my community because it builds surrounding people as well as myself.
The National Honor Society is built upon four founding principles: Scholarship, Character, Leadership, and Service. I have a high school life filled with dedication to these four principles on the Spiritual standpoint, the Familial level, the Community level and finally at the National level. Moreover, I did begin my dedication to these same four principles even before this starting with the Boy Scouts of America and this commitment will continue along with having a rich future when I reach my fullest potential. I firmly believe that to have academic excellence is giving your best effort to maintain not just having straight As and a high GPA at or close to the edge of attaining a 4.0, but to also have the skills that help you perform your very best in college and beyond. The National Honor Society is an organization that symbolizes character, scholarship, leadership, and services. I believe I meet all four of these characteristics; however, with the help of this organization, I would like to improve all of these qualities. First of all, I consider my self a very dedicated person. Once I set my mind to something there is no way I will not do it to the best of my abilities. I will commit myself to do my very best at every task that is given to me.
Considering my change over the four years of high school, it is easy to identify the influence of the four pillars of National Honor Society. The first pillar, scholarship, highlights a commitment to learning and education. Overtime, I have striven to take rigorous courses in order to strengthen my knowledge. Although these classes challenged me, I was always able to persevere and make the desired grades. This was attained by seeking the help of my teachers, friends, diligence, and hard work.
