For children and young people to develop positive relationships it is crucial for adults to model effective communication in the classroom. As a teacher or teaching assistant, you have the platform to facilitate social learning and lead by example. One of the main reasons why effective communication is important, is because it makes children feel happy and comfortable at school, and in your presence. Not only will this help children to thrive in a learning environment, but will also filter through to their lives at home and outside of school.
In order for a school to be successful as the principal, I must establish relationships with everyone that provides a stake in the school success as a whole. This means collaborating with teachers, students, staff, parents, community members, and school board personnel. I believe one component in building good relationship is by listening. Using developmentally effective approaches to connect with children and families is an important part of being an educator. We need to understand how to teach and build positive relationships with the children and their families. We need to use our knowledge about the child and where they are developmentally to be able to use a variety of different instructional strategies and tools to connect with the children and families. I think about how I can make the activities and toys more appropriate for the children. This is always important to think about because we have a whole bunch of different toys and some are not used as much because the children might struggle with them, but is we were to adapt them then the children could use them.

As an educator, I view forming relationships as an essential component in everything I do in schools. My experiences as a student and as a future educator has helped shaped and developed my teaching philosophy and my role as a teacher.
